Fortelling - Novel Plotting & Editing Workspace | APP (APK)

This is one of the many apps I've tried and used when organizing my stories.

There are many ways to organize our stories, depending on which section we want to focus on and how we want the story elements to be laid out. I personally started out using pen and paper before I used Spreadsheet and Word. I tried different apps to see how well it'd help me in my writing process.

Fortelling has been a handy substitute for what I do in OneNote. It's such a nice all-in-one app for all my organizing needs.

Formerly, I do all of my planning in Microsoft OneNote, creating tables for my characters and different sheets to organize timelines but after discovering Fortelling, I transferred all of my information there. OneNote is really fun to use in a desktop, whether the browser or the software itself but on phone, it's a bit lag. Could be just my phone though...

On the other hand, I do enjoy the utilities that Fortelling can offer. It has everything that I need without having to go to different third-party websites. Let's break down some of the helpful stuff we have in there.

What I love about the app:

  • No Ads (Thank goodness)

  • Easy way to organize them (smooth interface as well, it doesn't lag)

  • Attachments - not limited to just sending text messages to ourselves, but also attach files such as images or audio recordings.

  • Easy way to organize timelines

  • Character organizer is awesome

  • Free board to connect character relationships and events

  • Keep track of word count / writing streak days

  • Multiple projects in one app / easily swap between projects as well

I enjoyed exploring so many of its features. It's simple but most importantly, easy and portable. When that random idea at 4am comes to me, I open the app and list them down and organize it tomorrow.

Normally, I'd use a different app to keep track of my writing progress, word count and how far I am to my goal. But we have Writing goals as one of the features that they offer in this app. No need to go to a third party one!

As I explore Fortelling, I loved the feature to write timelines. It's so handy. As someone working with mystery and some time jumps, I seldom mix up events that happened in this scene or chapter and forget the nitty gritty details that was meant to foreshadow minor plot points of my story. I use a Spreadsheet to keep track of that, but now I no longer need to.

There are other features that I'm yet to explore, but what I found really rare in story organizing apps is the ability to have a free board. It's not laggy when I use it and I no longer have to keep using trials for Miro to keep track of character relationships and events.

Like I said, it's an all-in-one app, and I absolutely recommend to give it a try!
